Welcome to the RiverSong Music Therapy Blog!
This blog is home to our little community, a place to learn more about the different approaches to music therapy, some resources I use as a clinician, and recommendations for you to research further. This blog will feature music videos with singalongs, songwriting examples and more; educational posts around different topics like “How Does Music Work in the Brain,” and “What is Humanistic Music Therapy?” I will also include recommendations from songs, books and articles, podcast episodes, and other resources I come across that may be helpful. Blog posts are scheduled to arrive each Friday, so check back in regularly for new information!
RiverSong Music Therapy is my new private practice in Anchorage, AK and was born from my desire to share the benefits of music therapy with Alaskans. I moved here from Oregon in the summer of 2021 and have already felt a growing excitement from those I have talked about what this business can offer. Music therapy services hold a very special place in their ability to connect individuals to their bigger life goals through musical processes. The name RiverSong came about as a combination of my love of nature and bodies of water with my lifelong passion for singing. It feels like such an honor to debut this vision with each of you and I hope you feel welcome to leave comments and ask questions. I am here to be of service.
As stated at the beginning, this is a community and so I will just take a moment to ask that we are all respectful of one another and leave comments that are appropriate for the professional world. I plan to check in here once or twice a week, so my responses will be within that timeframe.
Please, continue to check in each week as I include more content every Friday and I look forward to building this communal space with you.
You can reach me by email at riversongmusictherapy@gmail.com or by text/call at 503-771-5541.
Best wishes to you all!
